Khovanov headed to Under-18 Five Nations Tournament with team Russia
Wildcats forward Alexander Khovanov will be missing the next few games after being named to team Russia for the Under-18 Five Nations Tournament. The Tournament is being played in Plymouth, Michigan from February 13th-17th with the top U18 players from the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Sweden and the United States.
Khovanov and Yegor Sokolov, from the Screaming Eagles are the only two QMJHL players on this year’s Russian team. As the Wildcats second overall CHL import draft pick this year, Khovanov is beginning to find his rhythm here in Moncton after reporting to the team in December. To date Alex has 16 points in 19 games played, and is currently riding an 8 game point streak.
“We are happy for Alex to get a chance to represent his country again, it has been a long time since his last opportunity, due to his lengthy illness,” said Director of Hockey Operations Roger Shannon. “Obviously we don’t like losing him for our games as he has played a big role in our resurgence, however, this is a very good event and it will be good for Alex to play against this competition and get a chance to represent his country once again.”
Team Russia will open the tournament on Wednesday as they take on Finland at 4:30 p.m. Atlantic Time. For full tournament details, and to follow along throughout the event, you can visit http://www.usahockeyntdp.com/5nations2018
