Riopel and Barberio at the 2007 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Canadian Hockey League announced today the coaching staff and the roster of Team QMJHL which will compete against a delegation of Russian All-Stars in the 2007 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge.

r

Goaltender Nicola Riopel and defenseman Mark Barberio will represent the Moncton Wildcats at the annual event which plays a very important role in the selection process of Canada’s World Junior Hockey Championship and Under-18 Championship rosters

r

The Chicoutimi Saguenéens will host the first game of the series, on Monday, November 19, at the Georges-Vézina Centre. The second game will take place the following Wednesday at the Robert-Guertin Centre in Gatineau. Then, the Russian delegation heads west where it will play two games against the OHL and WHL all-stars.

r

All six contests will be televised nationwide on Rogers Sportsnet. RDS will broadcast the games which will be played in QMJHL markets.

r

Each of the three CHL member leagues assembled a selection committee, which worked closely with Hockey Canada’s Chief Scout, Al Murray, to select the players who would participate in the Challenge. The QMJHL selection committee included Jérôme Mésonéro, General Manager of the Victoriaville Tigres, Sylvain Couturier, General Manager of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, Clément Jodoin, head coach of the Rimouski Océanic, and Raymond Bolduc, the Director of Hockey Operations of the QMJHL.
