Trade Alert: Wildcats acquire top defenceman Nicholas Welsh from Shawinigan

MONCTON N.B. – The Moncton Wildcats have acquired Nicholas Welsh from the Shawinigan Cataractes in exchange for a third round pick in 2017 and a sixth round pick in 2019.

As a 20-year-old defenceman and four year veteran of the league, Welsh will bring both knowledge and experience to help bolster the Wildcats blue line. In his four seasons with the Cataractes he has played in 261 games, recording 115 points.

“ Nicholas is the kind of defenceman like Dominic Talbot-Tassi was for us, and he will be a quarterback on the power play. With 44 points last season he is the kind of offensive minded defencemen we need who can create points from the backend,” said  Roger Shannon, Director of Hockey Operations for the Wildcats.

The 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft will being Saturday June 3rd at Harbour Station. Full draft coverage will take place on TVA Sports, Rogers TV, and tune into all of the Wildcats social media channels for up to date information.
