Wildcats acquire forward James Phelan – Julien Tessier to the Foreurs

MONCTON N.B. – The Moncton Wildcats have traded forward Julien Tessier and a fifth round pick in 2018 to the Val d’Or Foreurs in exchange for James Phelan, a second in 2018 and a third in 2019.

Phelan was drafted 21st overall by the Shawinigan Cataractes in the 2013 QMJHL Entry Draft, and is currently playing his fifth season in the QMJHL. After two and a half years in Shawinigan he was traded to Victoriaville where he has been Assistant Captain for two seasons; to date James has played in 294 QMJHL games, totalling 156 points.

Born in Laval QC, the 5’11” 185 lb centerman is a seasoned veteran of the league, and at 20-years-old he is a proven impact forward with over a point per-game this season; 39 points in 37 games. Last season he ended the year with 59 points in 68 regular season games; we look forward to seeing him bring that ability with him to Moncton as he joins the lineup tonight!

“James is a perfect 20-year-old for us, he is the player we have been looking for the entire trading period.” Said Director of Hockey Operations Roger Shannon. “He will bring strong leadership, offensive ability , and he plays a tough competitive game. We want to welcome James to the team for his final year in Junior Hockey after five great seasons in the league.”

The Wildcats would also like to thank Julien Tessier for his time with us in Moncton. Tessier was acquired by Moncton last year during the Christmas trade period as part of the Klima trade to Chicoutimi.

“We would like to wish Julien all the best in his hockey career and thank him for his great time in Moncton, he played very well for us during his year here.” said Roger Shannon.

The Wildcats are back on home ice tonight at 7:00 p.m. as the Acadie-Bathirst Titan are in town. For tickets call 857-4100 or online at Also, don’t forget it is high school spirit night, show your valid high school student ID at the box office and get a $5 game ticket.
