Wildcats name captains for second half

MONCTON N.B. – The Moncton Wildcats have selected the captain and assistant captains for the second half of the season.

Wearing the C will be 20-year-old defencman Duncan MacIntyre. Having joined the team in November he has shown both experience and leadership from the beginning; this season marks his fifth year in the league. “Duncan is a great guy, and we are thrilled with the way he is playing on ice, and the way he carries himself off the ice,” said Head Coach, Darren Rumble. “We feel he is an excellent choice to lead our young players for the remainder of the season.”

Wearing the A’s at home will be #14 Liam Murphy and #26 Alexandre Renaud. Liam now in his third season with the Wildcats is the only returning player from last year’s group. To date he has played 148 games in a Wildcats jersey, recording 55 points. A CHL veteran, Alex Renaud came to the Wildcats during the Christmas trade period, after playing four season in the OHL, Renaud is able to bring that experience with him to the Q and help our younger players.

Rumble had this to say about the two home assistants, “Liam has continued to grow on and off the ice for the past two and a half years, and we feel like he is now ready to take on a leadership role.”

“Alex is a very mature young man who has come in and immediately had a presence in our locker room. We feel that  he is a great choice to help Duncan with the leadership duties this season.”

Our assistant captains on the road will be #18 Jonathan Aspirot, and #5 Louis-Philip Fortin.

Drafted by Moncton in 2015, Aspirot is in his first season with the team. The 17-year-old defenceman has appeared in the lineup for 38 games this season, registering 8 points. Fortin, and 18-year-old defenceman was one of the more recent additions to the lineup at the end of this year’s trade period.

“Jonathan has shown consistency for us game in and game out, playing the right way and leading by example. He is going to be a big part of the future of our team.” said Rumble.

“Fortin came in and immediately took charge on and off the ice. He will be a big piece of our team for the next two and a half years and we feel very fortunate to have acquired him.”

Congratulations to our new captains for this second half of the season!
