The Moncton Wildcats kicked off their three game Quebec road trip tonight at the Palais des Sports Léopold-Drolet as they took on the Sherbrooke Phoenix. After coming off a three game winning steak at home, the Wildcats were looking to continue that momentum on the road.
It was a fast start to the game with a goal for each side less than three minutes into the opening frame. Jeremy McKenna got the Cats on the board first, followed by a Phoenix goal a few seconds later to even things up. Before the end of the opening 20 minutes, Moncton added two more goals courtesy of Jonathan Aspirot (2) and Mika Cyr (5), giving the Cats a two point advantage.
Midway through the second Sherbrooke would end up tying the game on a goal from Mathieu Olivier. Then, early in the third Jacob Arsenault was sent to the box for holding, giving the Phoenix that momentum boost they needed and they would not miss the opportunity. Hugo Roy found the back of the net to tie this game at 3-3. Six seconds later Jeremy McKenna split the defense and with a quick wrist shot top shelf he found the back of the net to give Moncton the leading goal, then again at 9:24 netted the insurance goal and his third of the night for the hat trick!
First star of the night with four points was #12 Jeremy McKenna, and third star was Wildcats net-minder Mark Grametbauer with 36 saves on the night
Moncton plays Drummondville tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. (AST) Go Cats Go!
