Wildcats back in the win column with 7-1 victory over Shawinigan
The Wildcats are back in the province of Quebec for a three game road trip.
The guys started out tonight vising the Shawinigan Cataractes, and after two tough home games last weekend they were looking to get back into the win column, and did just that!
They came out flying, kept the pressure on and were able to take an early lead. Alex Khovanov got the team ahead first at 5:11 of the opening frame to get the early momentum, followed by a Jeremy McKenna’s 19th of the year to make it 2-0 Moncton after the opening frame.
Moncton would go on to add four more in the second; Adam Capannelli notched a pair, as well as goals by Khovanov and Cyr to take a commanding lead into the final 20 minutes.
Alex Khovanov found the back of the net once again in the third period for the hat trick. As time wound down it looked as though the Cats might walk away from this one with the shutout, however, with two penalty’s called on Moncton, the Cataractes made no mistake and notched one at 18:15 while on a two man advantage to make the final 7-1.
Alex Khovanov was named first star tonight with a hat trick and five points. Gabriel Sylvestre was given second star with a pair of assists, and Francis Leclerc named third star with a 26 save performance in the win!
The Wildcats are back at it tomorrow night at 8pm vs. the Sherbrooke Phoenix as they look to rebound from their last encounter at the Avenir Centre.
