Wildcats complete trades ahead of 2020 QMJHL Draft

Ahead of the 2020 QMJHL Entry Draft this weekend, the Moncton Wildcats have announced the completion of three transactions.

The Wildcats traded forwards Zachary L’Heureux and Elliot Desnoyers to the Halifax Mooseheads in exchange for Moncton’s 2020 2nd round pick (#37 overall), Acadie-Bathurst’s 2020 3rd round pick (#41 overall), and Moncton’s 2021 5th round pick, 2022 2nd & 3rd round picks.

This transaction completes a previous trade in which the Wildcats acquired Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Jared McIsaac.

“We’re giving up two good players, good character kids — that’s tough to do. They’re quality individuals and quality hockey players, we wish them all the best, we know they’ll be successful. They’ll be very good in this league, but that’s the price you have to pay sometimes,” said Ritchie Thibeau, Director of Hockey Operations following the announcement.

“We did what we needed to do with the assumption there would be a playoffs,” Thibeau said. “We can’t control what happened, it’s beyond our control. We’re still comfortable with the trades we made, it’s unfortunate there was no playoffs, but at the end of the day there is nothing we can do about that.”

The Wildcats then swapped picks with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. Moncton sent their 2020 2nd round pick (#37 overall) and their 2021 2nd round pick to Baie-Comeau in exchange for Moncton’s 2020 3rd round pick (#57 overall) and 2021 4th round pick.

This transaction completes a previous trade in which the Wildcats acquired Gabriel Fortier.

The Wildcats concluded the day by sending their 2020 6th round pick (#111 overall) and Acadie-Bathurst’s 2021 5th round pick to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan to complete an earlier transaction.

“We’re looking forward now to the Draft. We still have lots of quality players and some picks to replenish the cupboards,” Thibeau said.
