Axel Andersson joins the team!

MONCTON N.B. – The Wildcats are excited to announce that defenseman Axel Andersson has joined the Wildcats for the 2019-2020 season. The 19-year-old from Järna, Sweden will be a welcomed addition to the Wildcats blueline following the loss of Jonathan Aspirot, as the club was in need of some veteran presence on the backend.

“Axel is a great addition to our defense core, said Wildcats Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, John Torchetti. “He is a solid two-way player who can make a good first pass to exit out of our zone. We look forward to him being part of our team, and continuing to develop him into an NHL prospect for the Bruins.”

Andersson was drafted 57th overall in 2018 by the Boston Bruins as their top selection. The Wildcats acquired Axel in this summer’s CHL Import Draft, when he was selected 30th overall by the team. It was a busy summer for Axel with the Bruins as he was in the lineup for a few of their exhibition games, before attending the Providence Bruins (AHL) main camp last month.

Last season Andersson played for Södertälje SK in the Allsvenskan Swedish league playing in 41 games. During the 2017-2018 season he took home a bronze medal with team Sweden, and will likely be on the radar of his home country again for this year’s World Juniors Tournament.

The Wildcats are back in action tonight at the Avenir Centre at 7:00 p.m. as we take on the Cape Breton Eagles. Don’t forget it’s student night, $10 tickets with the promo code “wildstudent” at the Subaru of Moncton Box Office or online.
