Daniel Lacroix hired as Head Coach
Moncton, December 23, 2019 – The Moncton Wildcats are pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Lacroix as their new Head Coach. Lacroix will make his debut behind the bench on December 28 as the Wildcats take on the Charlottetown Islanders.
“Dan is a great communicator with tremendous coaching experience,” said Robert K. Irving, President of the Moncton Wildcats. “He is passionate and brings that enthusiasm to the rink every day. We are excited about Dan joining our team and helping us win.”
Lacroix served as assistant coach with the Montreal Canadiens from 2014 to 2018. Lacroix was an assistant coach with the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers prior to joining the Montreal Canadiens. Most recently, he was Head Coach of the Lithuania National Team.
“I’m excited I’ve been given the opportunity to coach the Wildcats and look forward to returning to Moncton,” said Lacroix. “This is a strong team and a premier organization. I’m looking forward to meeting the players and staff, and getting ready for a solid second half of the season.”
Lacroix was an assistant coach with the Moncton Wildcats from 2002 to 2006. During this time, the team reached the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League finals twice, including winning a President’s Cup in 2006. Lacroix took over as Moncton’s interim head coach for the second half of the 2004-2005 season.
“Dan knows the organization well,” added Ritchie Thibeau, Director of Hockey Operations, “He understands our culture and our values. That was very important to us when selecting our new Head Coach. Dan has been a part of winning organizations and understands what it takes to win.
Lacroix was drafted by the New York Rangers in the second round, 33rd overall, of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. A seven-year NHL veteran left wing, Lacroix played for the New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers, and the New York Islanders.

Irving, le président des Wildcats de Moncton. « C’est un homme passionné, et il fait profiter ses joueurs de cet enthousiasme chaque jour. Nous sommes ravis de savoir que Dan se joint à notre équipe et nous aidera à gagner. »
- Lacroix a été entraîneur adjoint des Canadiens de Montréal de 2014 à 2018. Il avait été entraîneur adjoint des Islanders de New York, des Lightning de Tampa Bay et des Rangers de New York avant de travailler avec les Canadiens de Montréal. Plus récemment, il a été entraîneur-chef de l’équipe nationale de la Lituanie.
« Je suis très heureux que l’on m’offre d’entraîner les joueurs des Wildcats, et j’ai hâte de retourner à Moncton », a dit M. Lacroix. « C’est une équipe solide et une organisation de haut niveau. J’ai hâte de rencontrer les joueurs et le personnel, et de me préparer en vue d’une deuxième moitié de saison fructueuse », a ajouté M. Lacroix.
Daniel Lacroix a été un entraîneur adjoint des Wildcats de Moncton de 2002 à 2006. À cette époque, l’équipe a atteint deux fois les finales de la Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec, remportant la Coupe du Président en 2006. M. Lacroix a pris la relève comme entraîneur-chef par intérim des Wildcats pour la deuxième moitié de la saison 2004-2005.
« Dan connaît bien l’organisation », a ajouté Ritchie Thibeau, le directeur des opérations hockey. « Il comprend notre culture et nos valeurs. Cela a été un élément important de notre processus de sélection d’un nouvel entraîneur-chef. Dan a fait partie d’organisations gagnantes, et il sait ce que ça prend pour gagner.
Daniel Lacroix avait été repêché par les Rangers de New York à la deuxième ronde de la séance de repêchage de la LNH de 1989, au 33e rang au total. Il a joué sept ans comme ailier gauche dans diverses équipes de la LNH, nommément les Rangers de New York, les Bruins de Boston, les Flyers de Philadelphie, les Oilers d’Edmonton et les Islanders de New York.
