Fresh From the Farm Report – Presented by Dairy Farmers of Canada

This month we take a closer look at two of our Moncton Wildcats prospects in the system — Alex Mercier and Éli Baillargeon. These two recently drafted players have had an impressive start to the season, both being named captains of their respective U18 AAA teams in Quebec.

Drafted 23rd overall this past summer Alex Mercier is currently playing with the Séminaire St-François Blizzard, notching 8 points in the first 9 games (2G/ 6A). Wildcats Head Scout, Alex Gauthier had this to say about his start to the season. “Mercier was injured the past few weeks, but before that he was very involved in all aspect of the game. Always dangerous offensively he plays a very fast game, just like he showed to many of the Wildcats fans at training camp this past summer.”

Éli Baillargeon, a 5th round pick of the Wildcats is also a leader for his group with the Magog Cantonniers. To date he has 12 points in 13 games, including 30 penalty minutes. “Eli works hard and is always around the net,” added Alex Gautheir. “He is producing at a point-per-game rhythm and plays an important top 6 role on his team.”
