Maxim Barbashev arrives in Moncton!

We are excited to announce that our 50th overall selection from the 2020 CHL Import Draft, Maxim Barbashev, has officially arrived in Moncton!

Following months of hard work by our hockey operations department, Max joined us in Moncton last evening and has begun his 14-day quarantine period.

Fans will be no stranger to his family name as his older brother, Ivan Barbashev, was an instrumental part of the Wildcats from 2012-2015.

“We are very excited to have Max finally join us here in Moncton,” added Director of Hockey Operations, Ritchie Thibeau. “Since his draft day, Max’s goal was to be a Moncton Wildcat, and we are thrilled he can now continue his development with us. It has been a lot of hard work by many people to get to this point, and we are excited to see him on the ice soon!”

Last season the 6’0, 172 lbs forward tallied 19 points in 19 games with Atlant Mytishchi’s U17 team, while also serving as an assistant captain. He was called up to the U18 team and contributed seven points across five games. In six playoff games with the U18 squad, he added another seven points.

Barbashev will wear jersey #49 for the Wildcats, a nod to his brother who wears the same number with the NHL’s St. Louis Blues.
