The Moncton Wildcats have signed forward Axel Simic off waivers.

Born in Switzerland, the 17-year-old-forward has played this past season with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada after being drafted by them in the first round, 18th overall, during this year’s CHL Import Draft.

Prior to coming to the QMJHL Axel played with Lausanne of the Elite Junior A league during the 2015-2016 season, registering 27 points in 39 games.  Although suffering a few injuries this year, he has still appeared with the Armada in 31 games recording 13 points.

“With us currently being short a forward, we are happy to add Axel to the lineup, said Director of Hockey Operations, Roger Shannon. “He is a good player, and someone that we knew from the Euro draft. Axel hasn’t had a lot of opportunity this season with limited ice time, but we are looking forward to having him join us and using his skills up front.”

Axel is travelling to Moncton today and will be in the Wildcats lineup with the next few weeks.

With the addition of Axel, the Wildcats have released 20-year-old forward Bradly Kennedy.
