Wildcat rally falls short, Moose take 2-1 series lead

Daniel St. Louis

The Moncton Wildcats scored a pair of third period goals but the Mooseheads weathered the comeback to win 4-2 and take a 2-1 series lead in this best-of-seven Gilles-Courteau Trophy quarter-final.

Zachary L’Heureux scored three goals for the Moose, including the empty net insurance goal at 19:32 of the third.

Trailing 3-0 early in the third, Moncton stormed back on goals from Thomas Auger and Oscar Plandowski.

Both goaltenders were exceptional — Mathis Rousseau with 28 saves for Halifax and Jacob Steinman 31 stops in the Wildcats net.

The attendance was 4,300 at Avenir Centre.
