Wildcats add former Drakkar captain, Gabriel Fortier to the roster

The Wildcats have acquired Baie-Comeau Drakkar’s captain, Gabriel Fortier. The 19-year-old forward is in his fourth season in the QMJHL.

In exchange for Fortier, the Wildcats have traded Julien Hebert, a 2nd round pick in 2020, two 3rd round picks in 2020, and two fourth round picks in 2021.

Gabriel was a first-round draft pick of the Drakkar (4th overall) in 2016, and was a recent NHL draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning (59th overall) in 2018.

Fortier will bring an immediate addition to our forward group both on and off the ice, having served as assistant captain for the past two seasons, and captain this year.

He is a consistent point producer the Wildcats will be able to lean on for additional offense, to date this year he has registered 32 points in 36 games, totaling 195 regular season games played and 191 QMJHL points.

Gabriel has also appeared internationally for team Canada, taking home silver at the 2015-16 Youth Olympic Games, and winning gold in 2017-18 at the Hlinka Memorial Cup.

“We are very excited to add Gabriel to our group,” said Director of Hockey Operations, Ritchie Thibeau. “He’s a very good skater with high end skill and will bring speed and compete to our lineup.”

The Wildcats are excited to welcome Gabriel to the team!
