The Wildcats are excited to announce the acquisition of star forward Benoit-Olivier Groulx. The trade made between the Mooseheads and Wildcats has Halifax receiving a 1st round pick in the 2021 draft, a 2nd in 2020 and a 2nd in 2022.
The 19-year-old forward will join the Wildcats after spending three-and-a-half-seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads. His journey in the QMJHL started in 2016 after being drafted 1st overall to Halifax, since then Groulx has played in 221 regular season games, amassing 91 goals and 116 assists for a total of 207 points, last season wearing the ‘A’ for the Moose and this year was named Captain of the club.
In 2015-16 he was part of team Canada for the Youth Olympic games, coming home with a silver medal. In 2017-28 he brought home gold as a member of team Canada at the Hlinka Memorial Tournament, and during last season was named to the CHL Memorial Cup All-Star Team.
“Ben is one of the top forwards in our league and we are very excited to add him to our team,” said Director of Hockey Operations, Ritchie Thibeau.
The Mooseheads captain was drafted to the NHL in 2018 when the Anahiem Ducks selected him 54th overall. Benoit-Olivier is a highly skilled forward who will be a tremendous addition to our group.
“I am really excited to join the Wildcats,” said Groulx. “They have always been a tough team to play against for the last couple years, and I hope to help this group of guys win two cups!”
We look forward to welcoming him to Moncton and see him suit up for our game on December 28th!
