MONCTON N.B. – The Moncton Wildcats have made a deadline day deal with the Saint John Sea Dogs.
The Wildcats received:
• 20 year-old G Jonathan Lemieux
• Prospect D Natan Grenier
• 2022 3rd Round pick (VDO)
• 2023 3rd Round pick (BLB)
• 2024 6th Round pick (SNB)
• 2024 7th Round pick (VDO)
The Sea Dogs received:
• 20 year-old F Phil Daoust
• 19 year-old G Thomas Couture
• 19 year-old F Nick Blagden
• 2022 6th Round pick (MON)
Veteran goaltender Jonathan Lemieux (6’1″, 185 lbs, 2001-06-08), currently in his 5th season, backstopped Val-d’Or to the 2021 QMJHL President Cup final posting a 1.95 GAA and a .910 SV%. Lemieux had 8 wins in 23 appearances for Saint John this season.
Defenceman Natan Grenier (5’11”, 153 lbs, 2005-04-20) is a 2021 1st Round pick, chosen 19th overall. Natan is having a standout year with the Séminaire St-François Blizzard (QM18AAA) with 18 points (5 G, 13 A) in 24 games.
“This was fairly large & complicated trade,” said Wildcats Director of Hockey Operations Ritchie Thibeau. “We just found out yesterday that Phil Daoust would be returning to the QMJHL and we were quickly able to find a trading partner and put together a package to help with the future and our championship aspirations.”
“Jonathan is an experienced goalie in the QMJHL, he’ll partner well with Filion and help his development. Natan is a 16 year-old playing at the U18 level in Quebec. He’s a puck-mover with a right-hand shot and we see him pairing with Morin in the future. He was a key part of this deal.”
The Wildcats thank Phil, currently playing with Belleville in the AHL, Thomas and Nick for their time in Moncton. Good luck in Saint John!
