Wildcats season ends on home ice

The Wildcats have been eliminated from the 2022 QMJHL President Cup playoffs after a 5-0 loss to the Charlottetown Islanders in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series, Monday at Avenir Centre.

Charlottetown wins the best-of-five series, 3-0.

The Islanders scored the game’s opening goal five minutes into the first period while on the powerplay. They made it a 2-0 game with a shorthanded marker more than three minutes later.

It stayed a two-goal game until there were nine minutes to go in the third period when visitors scored power play and even strength goals 22 seconds apart to make it 4-0. One more goal wrapped up the scoring with under 90 seconds remaining.

Moncton goalie Jonathan Lemieux made 37 saves in the loss.

It was the final QMJHL game for Lemieux, defenceman Jaxon Bellamy and forward Brooklyn Kalmikov.
