Gabriel Fortier and Jordan Spence each scored twice to lead the Wildcats to a 7-4 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs, Saturday at TD Station.
Alexander Khovanov, Philippe Daoust and Benoit-Olivier Groulx also scored in Moncton’s third straight win. The team fired a franchise-record 69 shots on goal, including 12 by Jeremy McKenna.
It was a difficult start to the game, as Saint John scored at even strength, while shorthanded and on the power play before the nine-minute mark to stun the Wildcats early with a 3-0 lead.
But Khovanov got Moncton’s offence going 27 seconds after the third Saint John goal to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Daoust scored shorthanded with seven-and-a-half minutes left in the first period making it a 3-2 game after twenty minutes.
Spence’s first of the night was a power play goal five minutes into the second period that tied the game.
Fortier then scored two goals in 44 seconds just past the halfway mark to give Moncton a 5-3 lead.
The Sea Dogs got back to within one with a goal 27 seconds into the third, but Groulx responded three minutes later.
Spence finished off the scoring with under five minutes left.
Goalie Olivier Rodrigue earned the win with 26 stops.
